ON ARCHITECTURE:
SCALE OF DESIGN FROM MICRO TO MACRO

1-2 December 2016 #Conference
1-15 December 2016 #Exhibition

Gallery of Science and Technology - Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Đure Jakšića 2, Belgrade

Conference

We are experiencing an unprecedented era in the history of urbanization. Some of the defining challenges of the 21st century dictate the pace of urban growth, create new approaches in architecture, increase the quality of living spaces, and control the environmental quality. At the same time, they also present an opportunity to create living spaces that are smarter, more efficient, more sustainable, more equal and safer. Design in the scale from micro to macro is the key for improvement and quality of urban and living space.

The themes of the Conference and Exhibition are promoting quality design in the micro – macro scale, which improves the life of resident citizens and visitors, with attractive living places. Creation of quality design is important for individual living of habitants in the micro scale of significance – furniture, house, interior, exterior, environment - as well as for the design in a wider macro scale, which emphasizes the advantages of a city and potentials for more attractive business, qualified manpower, attraction of students, tourist potential, and events of wider significance. It is what makes an exciting, vibrant city that offers knowledge about new trends in art, music and design.

The Call for Submissions is addressed to researchers and professionals in the fields of architecture, interior, town planinng, design, history, technology, art, photography.

We invite the submission of original research and projects in form of Conference Papers and Exhibition Posters related to (but not limited to) the following topics.

According to Scale Micro/Macro
- from Micro: Interior Design, Furniture Design (home and street or public décor), Home and Architecture Design
- to Macro: Public Space Design, Urban Design, Smart City Design and Architecture Design

According to Thematic Scope
- New Media Approach – New Materials and Design in Architecture
- Cultural Identity and Tradition – nurturing in globalized Design
- Globalization and Design
- Object Design by non-designers as “democratization” of design – through mass-customization
- Inclusive Design as a concern for socially disadvantaged groups and for underdeveloped places
- Architecture for Humanity – Design for humanitarian crisis

Exhibition
The Conference topics are also the Exhibition topics. We kindly invite architects, town planners and artist to submit their projects, drawings, and photographs in form of Posters that respond to the scope of the above listed topics.

The International Jury, consisting of the members of the Conference Scientific Board, will evaluate and award Best Exhibition Entries as Micro and Macro Award.

Second International Conference on the Digital Age

GOING DIGITAL: INNOVATION IN ART, ARCHITECTURE,
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

2-3 June 2016, Belgrade, Serbia

Museum of Applied Art, Gallery Jade, Vuka Karadžića 18, Belgrade, Serbia

Description
The theme of the conference is innovation and creativity in modern society, with the focus on art, architecture, technology, and science as being among the leading proponents of innovative change. Innovation has always been present in human endeavors to solve problems, organize community better, improve the quality of life, work more efficiently, and so on. However, the digital age has brought about unprecedented challenges as well as possibilities of innovation in all spheres of daily life, resulting in a growing need for inter-, multi- and trans-disciplinary approach in, art, architecture, science and technology.

As Lucas Dietrich explained in the preface of 60: Innovators Shaping Our Creative Future “…The future of innovation is no longer in the hands of the scientist, artist or designer working alone in a lab, loft or studio… It is a creative, collective, humanist enterprise that seeks to find new solutions to the problems of our planet and its future.” More and more, we are seeing the blurring of boundaries between art and science, architecture and computational design, physical and virtual spaces and selves, fiction and reality, all due to the development of new media technologies and innovations they introduce in modern society. Thus, Warren Steinkraus identifies five types of artistic innovation: “the exploration of new technique or materials deriving from technology; the inclusion of ‘incidental novelties’ or doing something new with something old; the application of self-imposed rules for creation; radical departure from tradition; and finally a creative advance within a tradition of such magnitude that it transcends the four previous categories.” These types or principles of innovation also apply to other fields, giving rise to new, hybrid or liminal disciplines in both sciences and humanities.

The call is addressed to researchers and professionals in the following fields: art (visual art, applied art, performance art, new media art, biogenetic and transgenic art), photography, graphic design, fashion, and advertizing; architecture (green architecture, sustainable architecture, wet architecture, digital architectural design, smart interior design); emerging communication and information technologies (ICT), AI research, neuroscience, and biotechnology; culture studies, theory of art, philosophy, and communication studies. We invite the submission of original papers related to (but not limited to) the following topics.

Topics
• New media arts, computational design and architecture
• Creative space: the interior, green space, built world / street world, augmented space
• Living architecture
• Cyber space / cyber art / cyber culture studies
• Virtual and augmented reality in art and architecture
• Innovation in IT / enhanced use
• Globalization and new media
• Rethinking the “New” in "New Media" / Remedialization
• Neuroscience and/in art

• Trans- and posthumanism in art

Innovation is not new, nor a privilege of the digital age. It has always been present in human endeavors to solve problems, organize community better, improve the quality of life, work more efficiently, and so on. The digital age, however, has brought about unprecedented and ubiquitous possibilities of innovation in all spheres of life. In the digital age, perhaps more than ever before, there is growing need for multi-disciplinary approach in the research on Arts, Architecture, Science and Technology to deal with challenges of modern society. Even though the theme of the conference primarily focuses on innovation and creativity in arts and architecture, we strongly encourage submission of papers dealing with creative and innovative use of new media technologies in different fields.

The call is addressed to researchers and professionals in the fields of art (visual art, applied art, new media art, biogenetic and transgenic art), architecture (green architecture, sustainable architecture, wet architecture, digital architectural design, smart interior design), emerging technologies, photography, graphic design, fashion, advertising, etc.

We invite the submission of original papers related to (but not limited to) the following topics:

• New media arts and architecture
• Art and architecture vs. digital culture / cyberculture
• Living architecture
• Creative space: the interior, green space, built world / street world, augmented space
• Creative design
• Virtual reality in art and architecture
• 3D Mapping
• Globalization and New Media
• Rethinking the “New” in "New Media" / Remedialization
